Take a look at some of our work this week. We've been solving complex problems involving place value, looking at the definitions of different word classes and beginning our Life Cycles topic in Science. The children have made a fantastic start to the new year.

Have a look at our fantastic Autumn wreath that we made with Mrs Munro. We then explained the different processes behind it and the different mediums we used.

This week, we have enjoyed looking at how fold mountains are formed. We used plasticine to replicate how the tectonic plates would collide under extreme pressure. We then used comic strips to show how fold mountains are formed.

Energy Heroes

Today we welcomed Energy Heroes into our school. They began by leading a whole school assembly on the impact of using fossil fuels on our planet and how this can effect climate change.  We spoke about making small changes that can help cut down our energy use and the renewable alternatives. Year 5 then interpreted some pie charts looking further at the data. Then 6 pupils in year 5 conducted an energy audit and created an action plan for the school to look at how we can save energy. They did a brilliant job at looking at the data and coming up with some great suggestions!

A huge well done to our two pupils chosen for recognition in the half-term Achievement Assembly. Both have made huge progress already during the year and possess outstanding learning behaviours. Well done guys!

Japanese Culture Day

On the last day on the half term, Class 5 spent a whole day learning all about Japan. They created some fabulous artwork using a special printing technique, learnt all about Japan and their school customs, and had a taste of a Japanese chicken curry at lunchtime. One of the most enjoyable experiences was learning how to be a Taiko drummer with Emma from Humber Taiko.

This week, as Geographers, we looked at a range of information from atlases, tectonic plate boundaries maps, graphs and much more to identify the risks involved with living in the Andes and Alps.
