Welcome
Welcome to our class page! Miss Cavill and Mrs Robertson are looking forward to seeing all the children and we cannot wait to hear all about your Christmas holidays!
Our Learning
We are really looking forward to getting stuck into our learning this term.
During the school day, we read independently and as a class. Reading at home is also encouraged and should be recorded in the children’s reading records. Our author for Spring Term is Dick King Smith. We will spend the end of each day winding down to our class books.
In English, we will be focusing on writing character and setting descriptions based on Hansel & Gretel. We will also be writing a factfile about ‘Amelia Earhart’ and writing a set of instructions for making Paddington's marmalade sandwhich. We will continue to develop our understanding of phonics following the Little Wandle scheme, as well as focusing on spellings.
In Maths, we will be working on Place Value within 20. This includes finding 1 more than, 1 less than, addition and subtraction.
In addition to this, we are looking forward to covering a broad range of curriculum areas over the term. This includes: Materials in Science, Great Explorers in History and Food in Geography. The children will also explore different faiths in their Religious Education studies and our main focus this term is Christianity. During our Art lessons, we are focusing on the artist Alma Thomas. The children will research all about her, look at her famous paintings and create a piece of art inspired by Alma Thomas.
Homework
Homework is set every Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday. Children can have access to adult support during free flow if they are finding it challenging.
Reading books should be brought into school every day and returned Friday. Children's books will be changed every Friday.
Spellings are given to the children on a Friday to be practised at home, ready for a Spelling Test on the following Friday.
