E-safeguarding

Killingholme Primary School is committed to the use and development of ICT within our school community. As a result of our high commitment to ICT, internet safety is an integral part of the embedded ICT structure within the school.  All pupils have supervised access to high quality equipment including laptops, ipads and a green screen.

Online- Safety

What are the issues?

The internet – on the whole is an inspiring and positive place.

The internet is an amazing resource which enables children and young people to connect, communicate and be creative in a number of different ways, on a range of devices.

However, the internet is always changing, and being able to keep up to date with your children’s use of technology can be a challenge.

You may sometimes feel that your children have better technical skills than you do, however children and young people still need advice and protection when it comes to managing their lives online.

Issues that your child may encounter on the internet will vary depending on their age and online activities.

In our school, messages from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) site are promoted to help pupils understand how to remain safe when using the internet.  Each year we take part in the Safer Internet Day, whereby pupils engage in a number of activities to promote safer internet use and this is also reinforced via our curriculum and during Anti Bullying Week.

At Killingholme, we know that it is of the utmost importance to ensure that all children have a secure understanding of online Safety principles. If you or your child have any concerns then you can follow the CEOP website link on this page to seek advice and support or if you have any questions regarding how to keep your children safe on the internet, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Eaton.

Parental controls

Children are gaining access and owning their own devices from a young age. Devices can be great for learning and development, however parents should be aware of the content available online and the chance of your child seeing something they shouldn’t when online.

Pre-installed parental controls are available for most devices, laptops and consoles and are part of the system when you buy them. You can often download e-safety apps and software to supplement these controls. But the most important thing is to set the controls on the device itself.

We have a parent/carer E-safety awareness morning on Thursday 1st July 2021 in the school's Enterprise Suite. If you wish to attend this training, please contact the school office on 01469 540232. If you are unable to attend the training but wish to access the course from home, please contact the school office for the password and video link.
