Mr Sanders, Mrs Bramley and Mrs Munro have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming all the children back after the summer break and can't wait to begin our learning this term!
Our Learning - Autumn Term
In Maths this term, we will be looking at place value, number and fractions. We will be answering a range of fluency questions as well as trying to tackle some very challenging problem solving tasks.
In English, the children will be using the picture book – Journey by Aaron Becker – to write a story of a lonely girl who goes on a big adventure! We will also be using our scientific knowledge to write an explanation text on the Big Bang theory and Evolution.
In R.E. the children will be exploring different faiths during the Autumn term and looking at reasons why people follow religion and understanding the reasons behind those that don’t.
In Art, we will be exploring Michelangelo and looking at what made him one of the most famous and recognisable artists to have ever lived.
Our Learning - Spring Term
As we continue our journey towards our Year 6 SATs in May, in Maths this term, we will be looking at converting between different measures, looking at the four operations with decimal numbers and finally introducing ratio and algebra.
In English, we will be begin using the audiobook - The Spider and the Fly, to write a narrative including suspense. After that, the children will be playing the role of journalists when they write a newspaper report using 'The Island' as their stimlus.
In R.E. the children will be exploring the faith of Christianity and focussing on the Big Story and really devling in to the Bible and the impact it has had.
We will be looking at Edvard Munch, an artist from Norway, who had a very different purpose for creating some fascinating pieces of art.
Finally, our Geography topic this term will see us looking at climate change and the impact that is having and in History we will be looking at the Victorian Era and the legacy that has left.
Our Learning - Summer Term
In Maths this term, our Year 6 pupils will be continuing their push towards SATs. We will be looking at Data Handling this term. We will be investigating the purpose of bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts and the different information we can interpret from them. After that, we will be introducing nets of 3D shapes.
In English, the children will be writing a Biography about Tim Peake. We are really looking forward to finding out more information about him! We will be writing a narrative this term with an emphasis on using dialogue to develop the story and the characters involved.
In R.E. the children will be exploring the faith of Hinduism, Judaism and Islam and focussing on how these three fascinating faiths worship their gods and understanding about the viewpoints on the world.
In Art, we will be exploring Kimmy Cantrell and the method of cubism and looking at what inspired some of the fascinating art that he has produced.
In History, we will be looking at the events that led up to the beginning of World War 2, Britain's involvement in the war and how the war changed the world. As a class, we are all very excited for our school trip: a visit to Eden Camp which will allow us to immerse ourselves in everything from the smells and sights of World War 2.
It promises to be a fantastic term.
Homework
Reading books should be brought into school every day.
Homework is set every Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday.
Homework tasks consist of:
- Spellings – to be practised for the following Friday’s test.
- Key number facts – number bonds or times tables.
- Grammar tasks
- Reading comprehensions
- Mathematical fluency and/or problem solving
PE Days
Class 4 have PE every Monday and Thursday. Children must be wearing the appropriate kit to participate. Earrings must be removed or covered and long hair must be tied back.
PE kit:
- Plain navy t-shirt
- Black shorts
- Black plimsolls
- Trainers (if outside)
- Black/navy tracksuit (if outside)
On PE days, children should attend school in their PE kit.
