Classroom in the Woods
For our topic learning, we are learning all about space. In Literacy, we are reading a story called Beegu. The story is about a yellow alien that crashes onto planet Earth. Beegu soon discovers that no none speaks her language and that no one wants to be her friend! She goes on an adventure to find someone/something that will help her find her Mother.
To support our Literacy learning, we went on a visit to Classroom in the Woods for the day. We had to explore in the fields and look for items that Beegu wouldn't understand. For example, we found lots of different plants and trees and needed to identify these to help Beegu. We even went into the river to explore different types of life that Beegu will have never seen! After we had our yummy lunch, we went into the sunny, blustery forest and did some more exploring. We used our different senses such as smell, sound and sight. We loved the sound of the crunching leaves on the muddy ground. Some of us found a toad under some metal and we even stroked it! We put the toad back into his habitat at the end to ensure that he did not become lost and unhappy. We then worked in groups sticking things to a spaceship that Beegu could remember Earth by. What fun this was! After that, we each got a potato and we needed to create our own alien. Some of us used big branches whereas some of us used small ones. Finally, we got back onto the coach and some of us even fell asleep! We loved our day at Classroom in the Woods!
To support our writing, we are now writing a recount about our day. We are using lots of wow words and features in our writing, and our trip has certainly supported this! We hope that you enjoy viewing some of our pictures from the trip.
